Digital Copy is is not the same as analog copy, it also can include addressing and other information. This post addresses that, building on wordpress.liquid.info/10/citation-meta/frode/
The notion of a Scholarly Copy is to copy, in a single operation, all the useful information for a digital citation, including basic citation information as well as digital addressing.
The purpose of this document is to ascertain what is in the clipboard depending on where copies are made and subsequently how pasting can happen. The main difference is whether the clipboard will contain Addressing Information. User can act on the addressing information directly and search via citation information, as shown in the diagram below.
Key Issue Highlighted : Addressing by Document Name & High Resolution Addressing
In order to enable high-resolution, document based addressing, Author will export the document with a unique name (author name document name and time including seconds created) and also put this name into he Visual-Meta, lock the document and save it.
- How to make the addressing via document name?
- How to make addressing to quoted section?
WordPress addressing will be by server name as usual but Authoring will have to include anchors at every paragraph so that the user can copy text and the wordpress plugin will add the anchor to the link.
Cited Text Pasted into Author
Cited Text Pasted into Author will be (as shown in the second column from the right):
- Pasted As Citation
- Pasted as Citation Attached to Text
- Pasted as Citation Free-Standing
What is pasted depends on whether the citation information was accessed as a just citation information or whether it was copied with text from a Liquid | Reader or WordPress our plugin, in which case the citation will also have addressing information. If it is copied from within the Citation dialog in Author it may or may not have addressing information, depending on how the original citation was added.
Pasting Outside of Author
Reader pastes into email or Non-Scholarly Copy aware application and what is pasted is the selected text plus URL or document name plus author name and publication date, for a basic citation which can be followed with a click. Multiple versions of the clipboard is possible and we have it in Liquid | Flow and Liquid | Author since it’s possible currently to copy text from a web browser and paste it into Mail as just text, no options, or into Author as a citation–in other words Author can see an attached URL. This mechanism also allows users to copy the BibTeX Export format from download sites for legacy academic documents such as on this page and paste that with the same mechanism: https://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=3349281# It is crucial for adoption that this paste looks good and is useful
